Would You Like to Work with Thoroughbreds & Experience Australia in 2027? Experienced Yearling Sales Staff | Australian Yearling Sales Season 2027 713 views4 applications

Ref: JL149753

Gold Coast, Sydney, Adelaide & NSW | January to June 2027

Fancy spending the first half of 2027 working with yearlings, travelling to some of Australia’s major Thoroughbred sales and experiencing Australia along the way?

We are seeking experienced international yearling sales staff to join our friendly, family run Thoroughbred stud team for the 2027 Australian yearling sales season.

Successful applicants will need to arrive on the Gold Coast, Queensland, by 4 January 2027, ready to join our team for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced UK, Irish, European or other international Thoroughbred staff looking to experience a different sales circuit while spending several months living and working in beautiful, friendly Australia.

The Season

You will join our team on the Gold Coast in early January and work with our yearling draft throughout the Magic Millions sale, including preparing, leading and presenting yearlings for inspections and through the sales ring.

From there, there is the opportunity to remain with us throughout the Australian yearling sales season through to early June.

Our anticipated 2027 sales program includes:

• Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale | January
• Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Sydney | February
• Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale | March
• Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Gold Coast | May/June

Between sales, staff can either travel and explore Australia during agreed time off or return to our farm near Young, New South Wales, where ongoing work is available helping our team prepare the next drafts of yearlings for sale.

It provides a great balance between consistent thoroughbred work and the opportunity to see and experience Australia while you are here.

The Role

At the sales, you will work as part of our experienced team caring for, preparing, leading and presenting yearlings to prospective buyers and through the sales ring.

For those choosing to work at the farm between sales, duties will include:

• Handling and educating young Thoroughbreds
• Grooming, washing and exercising yearlings
• Lunging and general yearling education
• Feeding and stable duties
• Preparing yearlings to a high professional standard for upcoming sales

We take great pride in our horses and our presentation, but we also want our staff to enjoy being part of the team and their time in Australia.

Who We Are Looking For

This position is specifically suited to experienced horse people who are already confident working with young thoroughbreds.

Applicants must:

• Have strong practical experience handling Thoroughbred yearlings
• Be confident leading and presenting yearlings
• Have previous yearling preparation and/or Thoroughbred sales experience
• Be capable of safely handling fit, fresh and sometimes challenging young horses
• Have a high standard of horse care, grooming and presentation
• Be physically fit and comfortable with yearling preparation and sales work
• Be reliable, hardworking and work well as part of a team
• Have good attention to detail and be able to recognise changes in a horse’s health or condition
• Have excellent English and be able to follow instructions clearly
• Be friendly and professional with fellow staff, clients and prospective buyers
• Be legally eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the position
• Hold a valid driver’s licence

Previous experience leading yearlings at major Thoroughbred sales will be very highly regarded.

Applicants travelling to Australia on a Working Holiday Visa are welcome, with the possibility of longer term opportunities and potential sponsorship for exceptional staff where mutually desired.

Accommodation

For staff working at the farm between sales, accommodation is available either in a single cabin or in a shared house with your own bedroom, subject to availability.  Accommodation is located at or close to the farm and a shared staff vehicle is available for transport to and from work.

Accommodation is also provided while travelling with our yearling drafts to sales.

Why Come to Australia?

This is much more than a single sale job.

It is an opportunity to spend approximately five months immersed in the Australian Thoroughbred industry, working at some of the country’s major yearling sales while also having the chance to experience Australia.

You could start the year on the Gold Coast in the middle of the Magic Millions atmosphere, travel to Sydney and Adelaide with our drafts, spend time working on a genuine Australian Thoroughbred family run farm, and finish the season back on the Gold Coast for the National Sale.

For the right applicants, we can offer:

• Attractive remuneration commensurate with experience
• Continuous work available from January through to early June
• Accommodation available while working at the farm
• Accommodation provided while attending sales
• Shared staff vehicle while based at the farm
• Travel to major Australian yearling sales as part of our team
• The flexibility to explore Australia during agreed periods between sales
• Hands on involvement with yearlings both at home and at the sales
• The opportunity to gain valuable Australian Thoroughbred sales experience
• A friendly, family run working environment
• Potential longer term employment and possible sponsorship for exceptional applicants

If you are an experienced yearling person who has ever thought about spending a season working in Australia, 2027 could be the year to do it.

PLEASE NOTE: If you require a visa to work in Australia, we strongly encourage you to apply as early as possible. Visa processing times can vary considerably, and successful applicants will need to have the appropriate visa approved in time to arrive on the Gold Coast by 4 January 2027. We therefore encourage interested applicants to act now rather than leaving their visa application until closer to the sales season.
