Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Groom to join the team on a private country estate, working two days per week, typically Wednesday and Thursday.
Working under the Yard Manager and as part of the wider estate team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the yard on your working days. As you will regularly be in sole charge, previous experience and the confidence to manage horses independently are essential. Additional duties include caring for pet chickens, pigs, sheep and using machinery for arena and paddock maintenance.
Main duties will include exercising, feeding, mucking out and all aspects of general horse and yard care. The horses and facilities are maintained to a very high standard, and their welfare is paramount to the estate owner.
Particular attention is given to each horse’s individual training, fitness and, where necessary, rehabilitation, working under the direction of the Yard Manager.
The estate offers excellent private facilities, including an arena, canter track, dedicated jump track and extensive hacking across the estate.
The family’s yard has 5 horses ranging from 17hh Hunters to a Shetland pony, so confidence and experience is essential. Activities during the year include Hunting once a week and pony club in addition to the activities around the estate.
There is potential for additional hours, including holiday cover within the yard and opportunities to work elsewhere on the wider estate for the right candidate.
This is a live-out, long-term position, and we are looking for someone dependable, trustworthy and who takes genuine pride in maintaining excellent standards of horse care and yard management.
Minimum Requirements
Previous experience in a profesional environment due to the sole charge nature of the role.
