This client is a long-term employer we have known for many years and would highly recommend. Grooms have stayed with the family for many years.
Accommodation is in a high-quality annexe (separate entrance, small patio, and private outdoor space (not fenced), plus 1 large bedroom (plus mezzanine).
This is a role which would suit someone flexible and willing to ‘muck in and out’ as employers are always very busy and often away from base. You should have proven ability to operate independently.
The family is part of an active British eventing team with horses ranging from introductory levels to the top levels of the sport. They have horses with various top-level Event riders, as well as their own home-kept horses. Horse welfare is front and centre, so you will need to share this value at all times.
They are looking for an experienced person to help them at their home and yard as it evolves, with the following duties, ideally:
Horse-related duties:
Currently, the yard has 4 horses (expected to drop to 2 in Q1 27).
- 3* + eventer who will likely move to professional in January
- 2* + eventer who will be sold/loaned.
- 8 YO sports horse, competing at grassroots with the owner
- 18 YO Irish sports horse for leisure/unaffiliated riding.
The horses with various other top-level riders may or may not come home to retire medically or otherwise at some point in the future. That isn’t the plan, but it always remains an option.
The yard owner would consider buying in a horse or two to produce and sell when the time is right and would be happy to share profits equitably, but only with a suitable candidate who has prior experience of producing horses. This would be a side activity and totally optional.
Ideally you will be licensed to drive a 3. 9t lorry bonus if you have a HGV 2.
There could be lots of opportunities to go to events supporting the yard owner at grass roots but also opportunities to attend other events with wider equestrian team (yard owner is owner of some top horses competing with highest level eventers.
More detailed description available to suitable candidates; all the ‘usual ‘ but to a standard that is usually accompanied by a long and varied career. This is an opportunity for you to diversify whilst remaining connected with high levels of the sport.
The horse role will represent a PT commitment Mon-Friday am and pm once there are just 2 horses on site.
5* facilities, 60×20 outdoor school, all weather turn out paddock; 7 loose boxes, solarium, 5-horse walker; approx. 15 Acres of paddocks.
Person Friday /Home duties (all optional) :
Family dogs – Feeding, short walks; need to be let in and out, etc
Gardening – No “heavy” work in the garden or general land management/lawn mowing required, as the land management contractor does this one day per week. General weeding and tidying in a 1-acre garden designed to be easily maintained
Housekeeping – Some general cleaning of kitchen, living areas, bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. etc
