*Salary IRO £34kpa plus lovely 2 bed cottage (5 minute walk from the yard with a garden photos available) 🙂 *Dog & partner welcome* Horse considered
Lovely pre-training/holiday/ROR/recuperation yard now has a rare opportunity for someone to join a happy team, as their senior Groom of 11 years is now moving on. 🙁
The yard is essentially racehorses (run in conjunction with an arable farm).
Horses range from unbroken youngsters to retirees from class 5 to listed and group race winners on seasonal holidays/shorter/recuperation/spa breaks etc.
You will be used to and capable of sole charge and teamwork equally. Some training is available, but you do need some solid experience, decent job longevity, a clear and robust CV and of course confidence and a liking for thoroughbred horses.
You will be a lightweight rider, fully confident and capable of exercise riding, including fast work, lunging, and groundwork. It would be a huge bonus if you are able to effectively school a horse, as riders of TB’s will know, you do need to spend a lot of time trying to strengthen and remind them that they can bend and go round a corner! The yard did used to break horses, so if you were experienced and up for that, it would be good, but that’s not essential.
The role includes (but not limited too) overseeing the yard horses and people. Making sure all daily tasks are carried out to a good standard, checking all horses are well, reporting and seeing to any issues, liaising with the vet when necessary, riding, general yard duties, mucking out, feeding, tacking up and grooming etc (eg:field cleaning, general yard maintenance, moving electric fencing.)
Hours are 7am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm Mon to Friday, Saturday 7am till finish. Weekend p.m.’s can be more flexible to suit staff, weather and time of year. Some weekends off by prior arrangement.
