Job Description Live in Groom/Exercise Rider required to work in a 5* eventing yard  – a professional, private yard near Devizes, Wiltshire. 8 horses from at all levels up to 5* (including a few retirees). This close-knit team works hard and takes care of each other. Dressage, SJ and XC lessons provided for keen riders on their own horse.  Most importantly, must like and care about our horses. Job Description We have an excellent, immediate part-time opportunity for a hands-on, experienced, organised and professional individual to join our friendly yard, caring for 6 horses, including rescue horses. There are a number of other, self-sufficient animals who need their welfare managed. The ideal person will be friendly, approachable and have a love for horses. At present, as many as 3,500 horses are the pride of the Lewitz stud, and 750 foals are born each year. We are looking for people willing to work with our horses. The job include a variety of different tasks, from assisting veterinarians and blacksmiths while treating the horses to maintaining our facilities. Experience with young horses would be an advantage. We`re looking for hard working, competent people. We offer you an accommodation (single or double rooms) and meals on the yard. Rooms cost around 190 € per month, including electricity and water, breakfast and lunch around 152 € per month. Your salary will reflect your own particular skills. Job Description In 1992, Paul Schockemöhle, a successful businessman and former European Show Jumping Champion, purchased a large site in the expanses of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On no less than 3,000 hectares of land in the heart of the protected landscape of the Lewitz, a centre for modern horse breeding which accommodates 4,000 horses and is unparalleled in Europe has emerged over the years. Around 250 employees look after the well-being of the horses, which are kept in spacious stables and in speciesappropriate herds in the expanses of the Lewitz. As a groom or rider at one of the three riding stables, you are responsible for the training and care of the horses bred by Paul Schockemöhle. Many horses which will later cause a sensation in top level sport go through our hands. The daily routine gives you the opportunity to gather a lot of experiences and impressions in every respect. The fact that a renowned trainer is always available to support you will particularly help you with your personal development. The riding stables entrusted with training the horses are three geographically separated farmsteads under a common organisational umbrella. At each of the individual sites, site managers look after the training of the horses with their teams. A jumping horse trained on the Lewitz stud runs through all three stations chronologically. The second station for training a Lewitz jumping horse, the “Rustica”, is located in the immediate vicinity of the main stud. Under the management of Janek and Melanie Hucz, the young horses take their first jumps under a saddle here.

You would need to be experienced and skilled enough to be “second in command”  balancing the role with all aspects. Knowing when to step up and when to step back will be important, as will be good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a high energy team. You would need to be able to demonstrate that you are a competent rider (min 5  years competitive riding in eventing or showjumping and you may have a variety of experience with young horses, sport horses and thoroughbreds at all levels). Approximately 5/6 hours a weekend. 5 – 7 horses ranging from Shetland, through retired to young horses and FEI. Looking for someone who has good knowledge and horsemanship skills. Competency handling all ages of high-value horses is essential. You will need to be comfortable in a professional but family situation knowing when to step up and when to step back. This is a role which would suit a hard-working, professional self-starter who ideally has done the job before and who wishes to excel in a professional eventing environment. You should be capable of both sole charge and teamwork, whichever is required on a day to day basis There are 24 horses in total, 12 of whom are ‘home’ at the moment. A second farm has the mares, foals and young horses up to two years old. Experience (and interest) with young stock is an asset as the team, most years will back two or three young horses over the winter. The role entails normal stable duties including professional management of competition horses, liaising with vet, farrier, massage and physiotherapy professionals etc. Candidates would be experienced in clipping, trimming, plaiting and turning out for competition, as well as handling fit (though sane!) event horses. There will be travel to events at home and abroad planned when things return to normal so a lorry driver is ideal, although not essential. You will be required to complete general handyman tasks around the yard, keeping the premises clean and tidy.
