Job Description English family relocating from Scotland are looking for a live-in groom to start June 2024. This is a full-time position with the requirement to work ad hoc Saturdays or Sundays as needed. The applicant will be in sole-charge of two perfectly behaved cobs and three (pretty perfectly) behaved shetland ponies. The family are currently looking to acquire three further horses / ponies to add to their team. The private estate is a working farm with excellent equine facilities. There is an outdoor arena with show jumps, miles of off-road hacking and plans for an extensive cross country course. This is a very happy and family focussed home, with young children, dogs and other livestock. HGV 7.5 ton license preferable, but for the right candidate the family would sponsor the required training and qualifications. CVs and references will be required. Minimum Requirements All yard duties must be performed to a high standard. Applicant must be a sensitive and confident rider and happy to work through any schooling or behavioural issues. Due to the size of the horses, the family require a lightweight groom, ideally one who is able to exercise and school small stocky ponies. Candidate must be energetic, a team player, with good social skills and the ability to work harmoniously alongside other staff. The family are also looking for a positive, happy groom who would also really enjoy riding with (and teaching where needed) the younger members of the family. Job Description Looking for a groom for the 2024 Polo Season and potentially beyond. Polo experience not necessary but strong riding is as we have some younger ones. Super friendly, relaxed private yard. Based at Silver Leys polo club in Hertfordshire. Loads going on at the club so a really fun place to be – it’s very laid back and there’s a club house serving food every day etc. Working alongside another groom. Horses are half in and half out. Role would involve general stable work and exercise including schooling, then grooming for chukkas and matches etc. Mostly just weekend matches and weekday chukkas so pretty relaxed and fun. Loads of flexibility around polo to manage your time. We have matches at the club and also travel away. Great hacking and opportunity for chukkas and/or polo/schooling lessons + stick and ball if interested! Option to get involved in our young horse programme (but not obligatory!) Working within a small team Swiss Eventing consists of a friendly, professional team who strives to get the best out of our lovely horses across the disciplines of eventing, show jumping and dressage. Minimum Requirements This position would suit a person with experience in handling competition horses and has got grooming experience at competitions. I would be delighted to find someone with a basic understanding and knowledge of first aid in horses. I am looking for a hard working individual who is passionate about horses and has pride in working to high standards with a good attention to detail. Off-site the owner has 2 young eventers being produced by a 3*/4* Rider plus 3x foals due in spring and based at stud. They NEVER have more than 10 onsite at any given time with other staff to assist (5 horses/ponies not in work). This role is for an experienced Groom and very capable Rider used to sole charge but is happy to work with others (other Groom/Family/other farm & household staff). Owner, kids and groom all have lessons regularly with a combination of 5-star eventers and GP dressage coaches. Children are just 13 and 14 but are competing at 60cm SJ, 80/90cm SJ and eventing. They are active members of the local Pony Club. Candidate MUST be motivated and capable of scheduling lessons and shows. Own competing on either their horse or owners’ will be supported and encouraged by the right applicant. Someone very confident and competent with an emphasis on the ridden work- devising fitness and rehab programs with our vet/physio/osteo etc, and following through is ideal. If you are happy competing and producing the eventers this is a bonus! The Groom must be confident riding young sport horses. Ideally willing and able to work with the employer to bring on the youngsters and compete with them as and when they get to that point. (entry/low level ) The employer would never, expect the groom to sit on something which she is not confident in and takes staff safety very seriously. Trainers come to the property for both dressage and jumping, so Groom could benefit from further training, and having lessons as well. Duties include Yard work, grooming and exercising all the usual equine first aid and feeding well-being. You would need to be willing to ride out with employers and their 2 children so someone ‘child-friendly’ is essential. Candidates must be confident riding alone and ideally able to ride and lead and enjoy groundwork. You will need to be an experienced 3.5t horsebox driver and a 7.5t licence would be useful but not requisite.
